Minimize Corrosion in Closed Loops

Corrosion and scale inhibition for closed loops is important—not only to maintain the integrity of the physical components, but also to maintain good heat transfer efficiency. Cortec® solutions for industrial water treatment include corrosion and scale inhibitors for a variety of closed loop systems, including chill water, heating water, heat exchanger, and even brine systems!

With Cortec® chemistries, it is possible to replace nitrites, molybdates, phosphonates, and phosphates while protecting closed loops against the negative effects of corrosion and scale.

Cortec® corrosion inhibitor options cover a range of low to high temperature fluids—from antifreeze and coolants, to hot water systems operating up to 302 °F (150 °C). Cortec® also offers the flexibility of multi-metal protection for systems containing yellow metals.

For chill water systems that contain brine, Cortec® supplies water treatment products suited specifically to protection in high chloride solutions where the corrosion risk is higher. Cortec® has also designed an excellent corrosion inhibitor for low sodium and low conductivity applications, such as nuclear power generator stator cooling systems or EDM machining.

Cortec’s portfolio of closed loop solutions includes a range of contact and Vapor phase Corrosion Inhibitors for application. While contact inhibitors continue to fulfill their traditional role of protecting metals in direct contact with treated industrial water, products that include Vapor phase Corrosion Inhibitors offer an added dimension of protection by vaporizing into the air as well as dissolving in the water. This provides protection in multiple phases—below the surface of the water, above the surface of the water, and at the air-water interface.

Treatments like the Closed Loop Toad® contain a combination of organic-based Vapor phase Corrosion Inhibitors and scale inhibitors that can be applied into either a wet system for multi-phase protection during operation or into a dry system for layup. Flexible options like these make practical and effective solutions for supporting the health of valuable closed-loop assets.
